2013 Awards Benefit Silent Auction
Long Beach Heritage proudly announces a singular event in the history of our annual Preservation Awards Benefit.
Through the generosity of an anonymous donor, we are able to offer a limited edition sculpture, "Dove Descending," by H. Wheatley Allen.
This sculpture, cast in bronze, will be the centerpiece of our silent auction on the Queen Mary, February 21st, 2013.
Advance bids will also be accepted.
Mr. Allen has achieved international acclaim with his bronze sculptures of birds. His work, chosen for its strength, grace and symbolic content, has been presented as gifts to heads of state by three Presidents: Ronald Reagan, George Bush and Bill Clinton.
President Clinton presented an original “Dove Descending” to both Yitzhak Rabin of Israel and King Hussein of Jordan at Camp David and also to Prime Minister Netanyahu of Israel and Chairman Yassar Arafat of the PLO. Among the other dignitaries who have received Allen’s work are: Mikhail Gorbachev, President Carl Carstens of Germany, Premier Zhao Ziyang of China, Emperor Hirohito of Japan, and Crown Prince Shaikh Saad of Kuwait.
With an olive branch in the story of Noah’s ark, the dove has symbolized peace, forgiveness and benevolence. Allen successfully captures that spirit in this sculpture. The sleek and simple lines emphasize the spirit of peace and humility. The branch line does not detract from the movement of the bird but echoes the line of the wing. The sculpture stands 14 inches tall.
Long Beach Heritage is making this signed and numbered sculpture available as an Auction item during our upcoming Preservation Awards Benefit which is being held on Thursday, February 21, 2013 aboard the Queen Mary. The Awards Benefit pays tribute to the organizations, individuals, and businesses that actively participate in historic preservation efforts in the city. This is our major fundraising event of the year and the proceeds support our mission to provide educational and community programs about preservation, and to support our very own Bembridge Heritage Homesite, a local landmark which is listed in the National and State Registries of Historic Places.
This is an opportunity not to be missed!
Because this item is so very special we are making it available for advance bidding for those individuals who cannot attend the event.
The sculpture is valued at $10,000 and the minimum bid is set at $6,000. Additional bids must be at $250 increments above the prior bid.
Anyone who would like further information or who like to place a pre-event bid, should call Mary Ellen Mitchell at (626) 353-5765. She will have the current bid status available for you. Final bidding will take place the evening of the event. The highest bidder need not be present at the event.
